THEPompano Catch 🐟
|
In 1939, Pompano Beach opened a state farmers market with a 1,008-foot loading platform. At the time, it was supposedly the longest in the world. Over 5,000 people showed up for opening day in a town of barely 4,000. Before the condos, before the Fishing Village, before anyone was talking about a $2 billion downtown, Pompano was a farming town. Beans, tomatoes, peppers, all of it moving through that platform and onto trains heading up the East Coast.
The wild part? The market is still there. Now called the Edward L. Myrick State Farmers Market, it still operates at 1255 W Atlantic Blvd, still handles hundreds of trucks during growing season, and still quietly functions as one of the few remaining links to the Pompano Beach that existed before the beach part took over.
Here's what else is happening this week. 👇

📰 LOCAL NEWS
🏗️ Waldorf Astoria Pompano Beach Just Topped Off
That 28-story tower going up on South Ocean Boulevard? It just hit its full height. Waldorf Astoria Residences Pompano Beach officially topped off this month, completing vertical construction on the brand's first-ever standalone residential building. Not attached to a hotel. Not in Miami. In Pompano.
The tower sits on two acres of oceanfront at 1350 S Ocean Blvd and will have 92 condos when it's done, with more than 85% already under contract. Penthouses at the top are going for $16 to $20 million. Regular units start at $2.65 million. Amenities include a 20,000-square-foot pool deck, spa, fitness studios, a private marina for two dozen boats, and 24-hour concierge, all run by Waldorf Astoria staff. Completion is set for summer 2027.
It's part of a bigger wave hitting the Pompano Beach coastline. The city has put over $80 million into beachfront improvements, including the redesigned pier, new parking garages, and the Fishing Village. Between the Waldorf, the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Armani Casa, and a W Hotel all going up within a couple miles of each other, the stretch of A1A through Pompano is looking very different than it did five years ago.
🎸 Willie Nelson at The Amp · May 19
Willie Nelson & Family with Lily Meola. Tuesday night. 8 PM. Pompano Beach Amphitheatre. Tickets start around $50. We probably don't need to sell you on Willie Nelson. Also on deck at The Amp: Sam Barber on May 22 and Men at Work with Toad the Wet Sprocket on July 16. Pretty solid stretch for a venue that still flies under the radar.
