If you like trivia, hold onto this one.
On a recent visit to Pompano's brand new Jellyfish Museum, we learned that a group of jellyfish is called a smack. Turns out back in the 1400s, the English had a habit of inventing wonderfully absurd names for groups of animals — a murder of crows, a parliament of owls, a smack of jellyfish. We love them for it.
Is the museum worth the visit? Let's get into it. 🐟

🪼 Jellyfish Museum - We Went. Worth It.
📅 Open now - check jellyfish-museum.com for hours and pricing 📍 199 N Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach (across from the Fishing Village)
One of the most unique things to do in Pompano right now.
The Jellyfish Museum - the only one in the United States - opened March 27 right across from the Fishing Village. It’s a compact space with more than 20 species of jellyfish in custom glowing tanks, and the atmosphere is genuinely calming and unusual. Nothing else in South Florida looks quite like it. We found parking easy and plentiful nearby, which makes the whole visit even more convenient.
Is it a full afternoon? No. Is it worth doing once? Yes - especially if you have kids, out-of-town guests, or just want to say you’ve been to the country’s only jellyfish museum. It’s the kind of quirky, only-in-Pompano experience that makes this city interesting.
One thing to know before you go: leave a few extra minutes for the gift shop on your way out - it’s fully stocked with all your jellyfish needs.
Pair it with lunch at the Fishing Village and you’ve got a solid few hours - an easy, unique outing.

🎤 Karaoke Night at Brewfish Bar & Grill
📅 Friday, April 10 | 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM 📍 200 E. McNab Rd, Pompano Beach 🐾 Dog friendly (outdoor patio) · Casual · Two bars · Tiki hut
A laid-back, anything-goes Friday night in Pompano.
Brewfish is one of those Pompano spots that feels like it hasn't changed since 1995 - and that's the whole point. Outdoor patio, tiki bar, boat views, cold craft beer, and a staff that actually seems happy to be there. Classic Florida neighborhood bar energy.
On Friday nights it turns into Sing It! Karaoke, hosted by local duo Susie & Gaylon, running 7–11 PM. Whether you're grabbing a mic or just there to cheer on the brave ones, it makes for a genuinely fun Friday night out. Bring your dog — the patio is fair game.

🍽️ Opened Last Year & Still Worth Your First Visit
The Vault | Old Town Pompano
📍 61 NE 1st St, Pompano Beach · inside the historic old bank building 🏦 Restaurant & bar · 1920s speakeasy style · Original bank vault on display 🕐 Mon–Thu 11:30AM–10PM · Fri–Sat 11:30AM–11PM · Sun Brunch 10:30AM–3PM
Pompano finally has a downtown destination you won’t want to miss.
The Vault opened in February 2025 inside what is Pompano Beach's oldest commercial structure - the former First Bank of Pompano, famously robbed by the Ashley Gang in 1924. The concept leans deep into that history: the gang's mugshots and era murals cover the walls, and the original bank vault sits as the room's centerpiece.
The food is American gastropub done well - comfort-driven, with a creative streak. The signature First Bank Smash Burger (a People's Choice winner at the 2026 Boca Burger Battle) comes double-stacked with gruyère, pepper jack, mushrooms, and a bourbon peppercorn aioli. Small plates like the crispy crinkle pickle Dapper Dills and the Deviled Dollars are shareable and come in half portions if you want to graze. The fried mahi fingers and the John's Shrimp Bowl have gotten strong reviews too. Dinner runs roughly $20–30 per person.
The cocktail menu - called "Giggle Water," naturally - features rotating taps, a seasonal wine list, and craft cocktails that have drawn consistent praise. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, 4–7 PM.
Sunday brunch is its own event: Banker's Benedict with short rib or shrimp cake, Billionaire Bacon, cheesecake-stuffed Roaring French Toast, and 17oz carafes of Bloody Bandits and mimosas.
Out back, there’s an open-air bar and patio - dog-friendly, with its own canine menu. Free parking is available on the street and in the lot across the street. Wheelchair accessible, and a kids’ menu is available.
Right in the heart of the downtown arts corridor, it’s a short walk from BaCA and a natural stop before or after a First Friday.

⚓ Florida's Wreck Capital - Pompano Beach Underwater
📍 Hillsboro Inlet and surrounding offshore waters 🤿 Shipwreck Park · All skill levels · Charter dive boats available year-round
Most people who live in Pompano Beach don't realize they're sitting on top of the wreck diving capital of Florida. The waters just outside the Hillsboro Inlet hold one of the most concentrated collections of diveable shipwrecks in the state — a fact that draws serious divers from around the country, while locals mostly walk right past them on the way to the beach.
The SS Copenhagen — a coal steamship that ran aground in 1900 and now sits on the National Register of Historic Places — is one of the most accessible wreck dives in South Florida. At depths of just 16 to 31 feet, it's reachable by snorkelers, not just scuba divers. Further out, the Lady Luck rests at 126 feet and doubles as an underwater art museum, with sculptures added each year by local artists — an octopus casino dealer, a robot in a dive helmet, a treasure chest. The warm Gulf Stream current running parallel to shore makes drift diving here feel almost effortless — locals call it "valet diving."
Whether you're certified and looking for your next wreck dive or a curious snorkeler who's never seen a shipwreck up close, South Florida Diving Headquarters runs charters and instruction right here in Pompano. This is genuinely world-class diving, five minutes from the pier.

🐾 GIVE A PET A FOREVER HOME
Florida Humane Society — Open Every Week (Thurs–Sun)
📅 Thursday–Sunday | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM 📍 3870 North Powerline Road, Pompano Beach 💰 Adoption fees vary · All ages welcome
The Florida Humane Society is a no-kill rescue with dozens of cats and dogs waiting for adoption. Every animal comes fully vetted, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines — ready for their forever home. If you've been thinking about adopting, this week is a perfect time to visit.
The shelter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that receives zero government funding - they run entirely on donations and the goodwill of the community. Adopting saves two lives: one animal gets a home, and shelter resources go to rescue another.
Three ways to help: Adopt - Visit the shelter Thu–Sun, or check out cats at PetSmart in Coral Springs (Sat–Sun 10–3) or Pompano Beach (Sat–Sun 10–4 and 10–5). Volunteer — Flexible hours at the shelter or PetSmart adoption centers. Call to learn how. Donate — 100% of donations go directly to animal care, medical treatment, and spay/neuter programs.
🎯 Since 1993, FHS has spayed and neutered over 3,500 animals each year, tackling the pet population crisis one rescue at a time.
