📍 Hillsboro Inlet, Hillsboro Beach (just north of Pompano) — accessible by boat on monthly tour dates 🕐 Tours run once a month, typically on a Saturday or Sunday — first-come, first-served

Standing 142 feet tall and visible 28 miles out to sea, the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse is one of the most powerful lighthouses on the entire East Coast — and most Pompano Beach residents have never set foot inside it. Built in 1907 on a small island at the inlet, it's only accessible by boat on monthly guided tour days organized by the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society.

On tour days you'll hear the full history of the light, climb 175 stairs to the top, see the original Fresnel lens still actively rotating, and get views of the coastline that most people never see. Tours depart from SFL Dive Headquarters — no reservations, just show up early. Membership in the Preservation Society is required to join and can be purchased on the day.
